Android News

So it seems today is a day for Android announcements.

HTC has made the Android 1.5 (cupcake) system image available for the downloading and device flashing pleasure of ADP1 (developer phone) owners everywhere. This is an excellent opportunity to test your SDK 1.5 targeted applications on real hardware before it hits consumers, so get to it.

Speaking of consumers, O2 Germany just announced the June release of the first non-HTC device to hit the market, the Samsung I7500.

With more SDK features, more countries, more carriers, and more devices coming thick and fast, the potential audience for your kick-ass Android app is getting bigger by the second. Download the 1.5 preview SDK now and get started.

  1. I still feel sorry for us here in the Philippines, we can't buy Android phones in the market even in the Google Market, now it is in 1.5 we are still stuck in the emulator eheheh!

  2. Hi Reto-

I just purchased your book and find your writing style entertaining. BUT, could you please give an update somewhere (here?) that will give the EXACT way to set up the developement environment? And how to get started on a project?
Android must change every month and Eclipse changes every other month, so it is very frustrating trying to follow the instructions verbatim. I'm getting no classfiles specified error...for starters.
Please take into account noobies to the wild world of Eclipse. The plugin dance is quite cryptic, esspecially when the screens and click-path don't follow as shown.
I think Android 1.5 made some drastic changes, because I've tried 4 different versions of eclipse and Android 1.1 and 1.5 and I can't get the correct permutation to match your instructions.
Please help out those late to the Android party.

  3. ok, now I get this error:
waiting for HOME ('android.process.acore')to nbe launched...

Emulator comes up but no 'Hello world"

  4. *sigh*
now this error (in a loop):

    DDM dispatch reg wait timeout
    Can't dispatch DDM chunk......

  5. *arghh*
    now I get this error:
Unable to connect to activity manager; is the system running?

    help plz
